The main building will feature the sprout and germination room and will serve as the main production area. Trays and hydroponic rock wool plugs will be seeded and germinated in this room. Shelving, lights, and circulation fans, allow for perfect temperature and humidity control. This building will also be the post production area. Packaging, boxing, and labeling will be performed here. Walk in refrigeration will be here and just outside the production building will be the greenhouses. One will feature greens and the other will be exclusively for herbs. The main production building and the greenhouse will also serve as the rain collection surfaces.
We will harvest rainwater on a large scale to either supplement or replace the need for utility supplied water entirely. Rain harvesting gutter systems, filtration, and storage tanks will allow us to measure water available along with water needs. It can be easily scaled by knowing the water needs and provide adequate storage to fit that need. Rainwater is PH neutral and absent fluoride and all the chemicals found in utility supplied water. The underground aquifer would also not be depleted as it would in a typical well system. The herbs and greens will all be grown hydroponically and will benefit because…the plants love it.
We will produce sprouts from an indoor, temperature, and humidity controlled environment as well as the pre hydroponic seeding. Light deprivation is needed in sprout germination and then sun spectrum LED lighting will be used after germination. The production building will also be where the seeding of the Herbs and Greens are seeded before they are introduced into the hydroponic system. The building is much larger than initially needed. It is also expandable vertically so that there will be no need to calculate additional building costs in any expansion plans. You can find out more by subscribing to our website.
The micro farm advantage is that they can determine demand of several varieties of greens, herbs, and sprouts in a very short amount of time. As mentioned earlier for instance, selling several varieties of leafy greens at a farmers market over a few weeks period can tell you a lot about demand. As an example, if you constantly sell out of romaine lettuce and baby spinach but have sold very few mustard greens you would increase your production of romaine and baby spinach and reduce your production of mustard greens. Supply can be adjusted in a very short amount of time as well. Sprouts as an example can be produced from seed to harvest in as little as one week to 10 days. Greens and herbs produced hydroponically can be harvest ready in 4 to 6 weeks which makes moving from lower demand products into higher demand ones very manageable.
